Penang, December 4,
2019.
Get Excited!!! Starbucks Malaysia
announces that a signing store has just opened in Penang. This is the second
signing store in Malaysia. First store being located in KL, the new store is
located in the heart of George town.
The store was opened
specifically in Penang because the island holds rich culture and history, and
as the Managing Director of Starbucks Malaysia and Brunei - Mr. Sydney Quay
stated, “KL was an overwhelming success when a signing store was opened in
2016. So it is smart to open another store Penang.”
This store was the
outcome of Starbucks Malaysia’s partnership with PDA. The aims of the store are
to give back to society, portray the value of different perspectives on hard of
hearing people and to enrich their lives.
PDA has given its
partners the professional training and development needed to manage the store.
Starbucks Malaysia and PDA also provide internships and sign language classes
for the store’s seven perfectly hearing partners, and as PDA and Starbucks
Malaysia ensure that the quality of store and the atmosphere is welcoming to
all customers, Mr. Razman Tan, President of PDA assures,
“PDA is excited to
partner with Starbucks because that gives a sense of belonging to the
community. Starbucks is a place for many kinds of people to come together.”
The signing store is
4,600sq. ft. The design of the store is designed specifically to meet the needs
of deaf and hard of hearing partners and customers. Examples of the design
include visual alarms and digital trace and point of sale systems with an
attachment customer display.
In conjunction with
the launch day, the store has a promo where for each vanilla fig fruppichino
there will be a special price, and for each of that drink, Starbucks Malaysia
will donate RM1 to PDA.
